The 2018 line-up so far (in no particular order) . . .

The Young Rebel Goombas

The Young Rebel Goombas have been a Duval Street favorite for for years. The Long Island-based band founded and fronted by Emmy-winning composer cousins Goomba Richie Saccente and Goomba Cosmo Mallardi has found a second home in the Southernmost Key, where they’ve been featured at MOTM and Margaritaville, including the MOTM Street Festival. Their 2014 EP “Go Key West” is a reggae/trop rock masterpiece. Their sound draws on influences from such iconic acts as Bob Marley, Chicago, The Eagles, Jimmy Buffett and The Allman Brothers. The Goombas were a smash hit as the opening night headliner at the 2016 Laid Back Attack in their first ever West Coast appearance, and their stock is rising!

James “Sunny Jim” White

James “Sunny Jim” White is a Texas-born Floridian whose singer-songwriter credentials are perhaps rivaled by his musicianship, unequaled in the trop rock genre. On the guitar or the steel pans, Sunny Jim can sit in with the best of them. He’s a legend in the trop rock genre, and even the most diligent of trop rock historians would be challenged to tally his TRMA collection. Sunny Jim is a favorite at LBA, and LBA is a favorite of Sunny Jim, which is why he’ll be sticking around all weekend to sit in with LBA performers all weekend long!

Mark Mulligan

Mark Mulligan is returning for what LBA historians believe is his record-tying fifth Laid Back Attack!.  His latest CD is “Same Beer Different Can” is the 14th CD recorded by this talented singer/songwriter.  He grew up in the Phoenix area but eventually ended up south of the border, singing and writing songs for a living, raising his kids in a place he loves, spending time on the beach instead of in traffic, singing for people who dance to his tunes one night and the next day join him for charitable work with the “Castaway Kids”, a charity that was founded by Mark in 2006.  He’s also the author of the book “The Three Miracles.” Mark will be performing as one of the Three Amigos at the Laid Back Attack finale.

Kelly McGuire

Kelly McGuire made a living at music for 15 years before starting to write songs. Now 6 CD’s later with songwriting awards, an Album of the Year award from the Texas Music Awards as well as nominations for Entertainer of the Year & Producer of the Year – he is living a dream!  He currently resides in the Clear Lake/NASA area of Houston near Galveston Bay and many of his songs reflect the Gulf, Boats, Islands, Sailing, Beaches, Buffett , Belize and his years as a yacht broker.  There are also fan favorites about Life , Love, Guitars, Daughters & Mom & Dad!  Touring either solo or with The Three Amigos,  he travels Coast to Coast as well as Belize, Mexico & Canada. In 2007 the “Boat in Belize” CD was released and immediately brought more awards and special recognition to McGuire.  The twelve originals that make up this CD earned Kelly the 2008 Texas Music Award for “Album of the Year”. In 2011, Kelly released the “King of the Island” CD.  Like his previous releases, this CD features a great collection of original music based on Kelly’s “ocean of inspiration from his cruising trips, islands and boats”.  We are please to once again have Kelly play at Laid Back Attack!

Brittany Kingery

Brittany Kingery has been the Trop Rock Female Vocalist of the Year  three years running, and she is ours!  Though she now lives most of the time in Puerto Vallarta, she’s a native Washingtonian born just a few miles from the site of Laid Back Attack. Her song “Tequila Talking” was the top trop rock song of 2014. And her “Hasten Down the Wind” retrospective of Linda Ronstadt’s music has become one of the most successful and longest-running shows of all time in Puerto Vallarta. Brittany was introduced to the trop rock world in her first cameo performance at Laid Back Attack in 2013. Her performance at Laid Back Attack Sweet XVI will happen on the 5th Anniversary of that introduction. It was a performance that helped put LBA on the map and led DJ Jeff Allen to announce on his first broadcast on Beachfront Radio after attending LBA that “A star was born in Seattle last weekend, and her name is Brittany Kingery.”

Rob Hill

Rob Hill has emerged as one of the most talented songwriters in the genre, arriving on the scene as Brittany Kingery’s co-writer and accompanist in 2013. He co-wrote the 2015 TRMA Song of the Year “Tequila Talking” and wrote the signature song “Little Miss Sunshine,” which has been nominated as the Pop Song of the Year by the international indie music organization Just Plain Folks, selected from over 300,000 submissions. His 2017 album “Beach Town” is his first solo album, the title track of which has been consistently residing on the trop rock charts since its release.

Thom Shepherd

Thom Shepherd has become a staple in the trop rock fan’s diet. The Saltwater Cowboy and 2016 Texas CMA Songwriter of the Year will be making his fourth appearance at Laid Back Attack, returning by popular demand!  His memorable performance at LBA 2014 drew a standing ovation from a grateful audience. Thom has written five #1 singles including Craig Morgan’s “Redneck Yacht Club” and David Ball’s “Riding with Private Malone”. In total, Thom has written 15 radio singles and has had more than 100 of his songs recorded by such artists as George Jones, Pam Tillis and Lorrie Morgan.  His music has taken him on 9 tours performing for our military in 17 different countries. His performance at LBA’s Last Call will be his second with his co-star bride Coley McCabe.

Coley McCabe

Melanie Howe “The Djembabe”

Melanie Howe “The Djembabe” is a well-known percussionist throughout the continent and offers more than most in her energetic and exciting performance. Her unique and innovative style of playing and performance has put her in high demand with musicians, though in recent years much of her touring has been in connection with her own duo/band Drop Dead Dangerous with partner vocalist Kitty Stteadman. Melanie has become an LBA fixture and a favorite with both audience and her fellow musicians because she makes everyone else better. She’s in such high demand to accompany other players that she’s been called the hardest working woman in trop rock.
